Ramblings
Well, I've completely wasted today. I ought to have written lyrics and progressed on my essay. Instead, I slept until 1-ish and then just kinda lazed around all day. I didn't even read. I'm so glad it's the end of the semester, and yet I completely haven't realized it yet. (Shit, since when can I hear LIRR/NJ Transit trains from way down here?) I walked to ProTools on Friday ready to finish my final with Eva, and realized that after that class I have a meeting, a recitation, and a lecture on Monday before I'm done. Well, other than finals, but still.
------
Speaking of finals, the strangest thing happened on Thursday. So, some sophomores in my program formed a hip hop group. Nicky is on lead vox, Angie and Richard back her up, and Richard programs their songs into a continuous set with very few musical breaks. Their CD Release show was on Thursday, so a ton of the department students came out to show their support. As Sullivan Hall, the venue, is primarily a bar but the show was 18+, a bunch of us got lovely red X's on their hands. However, these were sharpie x's, so...well, sharpie comes off easily. There were a few opening acts, and then a freshman, Genesis, performed a couple songs with Menya (the group) before Menya's main set. Just before they start to set up though, I see Richard running at me from the entrance of the venue with a look of "ZOMG!!" on his face.
"Jim Anderson is here to watch us!!" He said excitedly to me, and then Oresti and a couple other people nearby before darting back to the green room to start to set up. We all looked at each other in surprise and excitement, then headed towards the entrance to intercept our professor and department head. Not only did Jim show up, but Nick Sansano, and Michael McCoy as well. Nick teaches Studio II to the sophomores (and wasn't a bit unexpected as he had also been at their first show.), and Michael is my Engineering professor, and will be some people's Programming professor next year. He is super uptight and straight-laced and adorably geeky. As in, we barely realized he was drunk as he ensured that we all had earplugs for the loud concert. Yeah, that's right, Michael McCoy was drunk. This is only such a big deal because all the freshman who were there had been taught by this "I never let my hair down unless I'm making bad jokes at your and my expense" guy. We love him, but this was the most exciting thing ever. Of course, it was even better when Nick proceeded to by Oresti, Bennett and I beers too.
I missed the second part of the night, but apparently they all went out to some bar Nick has been going to since he was 16. Or, at least everyone over 21 or with a fake. I've heard that McCoy deteriorated to an extent that he was talking with Jim about omnidirectional microphones saying, "Yeah those omnis, juss- I don't even know!" Everyone else went back to another place that was holding a celebration for the one-year anniversary of Grand Staff, a record-label-ish entity that handles a bunch of the sophomores and juniors who are DJs in the program.
Anyway, I found it highly amusing and I want this to occur again in the future. LC and Eva and Rebecca and Allie have all expressed agreement with this sentiment. I told Alan that going back to NOLA for JazzFest was going to be a bad idea. :P Naw, he seems to be having a ton of fun.

It got cold again this week, I was getting nice and used to the warm. But, glancing at Dashboard, I see that next week looks to get warmer again. Hooray.

I'm listening to This American Life from a few weeks ago, the one about how families never change. There was something on it that reminded me of the time my dad scheduled me for an EARLY MORNING orthodontist appointment on my birthday. I was so mad at him. I understood the early morning ones during the school year, but I've never been a morning person so I was just upset.

I wish the guys on our floor would get out from under the thumbs of Zack and Brandon. I really like Frank, Kunal and Mike, but they're just so submissive to Brandon and Zack. Like, Frank has been in our room talking with Elyssa and I (mostly Elyssa I guess) a lot lately, and he's super fun to have around. He even sorta-invited me to go see a movie with them last night when I'd said I was interested in seeing it too. But then Zack texted him back and he looks at me and goes "Uh, Zack's not so happy with your wanting to tag along..." so I rolled my eyes and told him not to worry about it. Just stupid things like that. They're always trying to be around Zack and Brandon, but they don't want me around (or at least it certainly comes off that way), so I never get to see Frank, Kunal, or Mike either.

BUT! I should end on a positive note. I'm gonna try to make it down to New Orelans sometime this summer sos I can visit Alan. He's already planning Mardi Gras weekend for next year, but claims that won't be long enough to get me hooked on Cajun food as is his goal. I told him I'd come down this summer if he tagged along on one of his dad's business trips to Costco headquarters this summer. His family's gonna take a cruise to Alaska already, so he's trying to convince them to launch out of Seattle and go a couple days early sos we can hang. If it works out it'll be hellsa fun.
Now, time for food and attempting to buckle down on this essay. Oh, I should probably post the interview here too, instead of just in
tmbg . I'll get to that in the next day or so. Actually, lemme just link it now. Here's the interview I did with Mr. Flansburgh of They Might Be Giants.
