-First funeral: Greaty-Gramps'...but I can't remember it...so maybe Greaty-Gran's when I was about 8...but the only one that really affected me was Granddaddy's the summer before 8th grade. August 19th, 2002 was the day he died...I was at camp. His spirit came to say goodbye the next night, and on Wednesday morning my parents called and actually told me. I left that night, and we flew to Florida the next morning. Friday was my birthday...I was supposed to spend it at camp...which woulda been hella tight...but whatever i guess. And that's when it all began...before I was a happy and niave little girl...then I saw my dad cry...and I realized that I only had one memory of Granddaddy from before his stroke. We were walking back up the hill from the QFC by his and my grandma's house. I was carrying both bags of groceries. All I can really remember is him saying "Let me know if those get too heavy for you and your old Granddaddy will take them for you." And that's it. It's all I can remember of him while he was able to walk without a cane and actually pay real attention to people/remember things. Other than that my most vivid memory of him is from one day in 7th grade when we took him back to the Assisted Living wing of his and my grandma's retirement centre. He was curled up in a fetal position on his bed in one of those white hospital gown type garmets and shaking. He looked so weak. This is also why I always cry during Amazing Grace...we sang that at his funeral along with I'll Fly Away (cuz he was a pilot for Pan Am airlines)...and I recited my favorite poem "The Creamation of Sam McGee" which I didn't even know was his favorite too until I got to Florida.
